Bedford man jailed for non-recent child sexual abuse

14 May 2018

A man from Bedford has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, after being found guilty of sexually abusing two young boys in the 1980s.

Satwant Sondhi, 50, of Old Ford End Road, was found guilty on 7 March and was sentenced on Friday (11 May).

The jury heard how Sondhi’s abuse began in the 1980s, when the victims were just six and seven-years-old, and lasted for several years subsequently.

He was arrested in December 2015 after the victims came forward and reported his crimes to the police.

Detective Inspector Emma Pitts said: “Sondhi tormented his young victims with a reign of abuse that spanned many years and the substantial sentence he has received is a reflection of the severity of his crimes. "This is also a testament to the bravery of the victims in coming forward which helped secure such a significant conviction.

“This case demonstrates that we are fully committed to tackling child sexual abuse and we encourage anyone who has been the victim of rape or sexual abuse to come forward, no matter how long ago the abuse took place. We will always thoroughly investigate every allegation passed to us.”
