Closure order obtained following successful drugs warrant

24 Dec 2018

A police operation following reports of criminal activity linked to drugs at the Willow Drift travellers’ site in Meadow Lane, and a successful legal application by Bedford Borough Council, has led to the granting of a closure order on five plots at the site.

Officers carried out a drugs warrant at the site in Cardington on Thursday 13 December, where nine men and four women were arrested, and later bailed.

On 14 December, Bedford Borough Council obtained a three-month property closure order, which was issued at Luton Magistrates’ Court, for five plots at the site.

Superintendent Mark Upex, of the operation’s command team, said: “An investigation is now underway.

“We have a duty of care to the other residents, and to the wider local community, to ensure people can live safely, peacefully and lawfully.”
