We partner with BTG to protect tradespeople from van theft crime

2 Jun 2021

We have partnered up with Builders’ Talk Group (BTG) to help share specific guidance aimed to help protect tradespeople from van theft crime.

The crime prevention team at Bedfordshire Police worked closely with BTG to share advice that could give helpful and practical guidance to protect commercial vehicles and contents.

Lesley Johnson from Bedfordshire Police’s crime prevention team said: “We are working with our partners to help protect tradespeople from criminals targeting commercial vans because of high value products that may be stored in there.

“Such tools and other equipment are people’s livelihoods and this type of theft can have a serious financial and emotional impact on the victim and their family.

“These criminals are opportunists and ruin lives by trying to make a quick buck. We build information on this activity to target these thieves and urge anyone who notices any suspicious behaviour in their area, or who has been approached to buy large quantities of high value goods, to get in touch.

“We hope this guidance helps add further protection for tradespeople who are often targeted when trying to make a living.”
