Safer Streets Project

Find out about the Safer Streets Projects across Bedfordshire.

The Safer Steets Project is funded by the Home Office and aims to reduce crime and make the local area safer for you, your family and your neighbours.

In Bedfordshire we have two projects taking place in Bedford and Luton.

Bedford Safer Streets Project

The Safer Streets Project in Bedford covers Midland Road and surrounding areas. The streets included are:

  • Alexandra Place
  • Alexandra Road
  • Ashburnham Road
  • Battison Street
  • Brereton Road
  • Church Street
  • Costin Street
  • Gibbons Road
  • Grafton Road
  • Maitland Street
  • Midland Road
  • Prebend Street
  • Priory Street
  • Rutland Road
  • Western Street

The plan to reduce crime in the area is to:

  1. Upgrade the CCTV in the Midland Road area to Smart Cameras
  2. Visit homes in the area and offer an upgrade on home security for free
  3. Support the community by creating a community hub space where partner agencies can work to support the community long-term

Luton Safer Streets Project

The Safer Streets Project in Luton covers the High Town area. The streets included are:

  • Frederick Street
  • High Town Road
  • New Bedford Road
  • Midland Road
  • Dudley Street
  • Havelock Road
  • Wenlock Street
  • William Street

The plan to reduce crime in the area is to:

  1. Increase CCTV
  2. Improve street lighting
  3. Establish a neighbourhood watch in the community

If you are interested in being part of the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme in High Town, please follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Our Watch website
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions by entering your postcode
  3. Complete an online application selecting HightownLNWSSF
