The two-year programme starts in September and sessions are held in Bedford and Luton on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and in Biggleswade on a Thursday evening. We recruit once a year in January.
Our Cadet programme aims to promote a practical understanding of policing amongst young people, and is a great way for them to make a positive contribution to their communities. Through volunteering they support local policing, assisting with community and crime prevention events which can include alcohol test purchasing, car park marshalling and representing the force at official ceremonies including Rememberence Day.
Bedfordshire Police Cadets follow the National Volunteer Police Cadets framework, which covers five key areas:
- Health and safety
Our Cadets learn about each of these areas through informative and interactive training sessions. They also have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers from different departments from the force and find out more about what they do.
The programme helps young people develop their skills, experience a variety of activities, make new friends and improve their self-esteem and confidence.
After the two year programme there are opportunities to progress to the Senior Cadet Programme, assist as Cadet Instructors, or join the Special Constabulary.
