Assistance with Legal Aid

Legal aid may be available if you have evidence that you or your children have been victims of domestic abuse and you can’t afford to pay legal costs.

For guidance on whether or not you can get legal aid can be found on the Gov.uk website

A full list of acceptable evidence, guidance and assistance on how you may be eligible to apply for legal aid can be found on the Ministry of Justice website

Bedfordshire Police may be able to provide the following evidence relating to domestic abuse:

  • evidence of a police caution for a domestic abuse offence given to the other party for a crime against the applicant within the past two years; and
  • on-going proceedings for a domestic abuse offence against the other party for a crime where the applicant is the victim
  • a letter from a Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC)
