Welcome to the Prevent pages for the Eastern Region. The Eastern Region is made up of six police forces: Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hertfordshire and Essex.
Bedfordshire Police is the lead force for the Eastern Region.
What is Prevent?
Prevent is one of the four stages of Contest, the Government’s Counter Terrorism strategy.
Prevent aims to prevent people from becoming terrorists and/or supporting terrorist activities and to challenge extremist beliefs.
How does Prevent work?
By engaging with the community, education, faith establishments, medical and mental health care, criminal justice, partner agencies and our colleagues in the police.
This helps us to identify those who are most vulnerable to radicalisation and intervene before they commit any offences.
Prevent works in the non-criminal space. It is about supporting and protecting those people that might be vulnerable to radicalisation, ensuring that individuals are diverted away before any crime is committed.
Prevent are currently working closely with partner agencies in WRAP training, following the creation of the Crime and Security Act 2015.
