Operation fidelity

In winter 2015 Bedfordshire Police launched a new forcewide plan to cOp Fidelity 2017ontinue to bring down burglary rates and tackle offenders.

The overall aim of the plan is to make it more difficult for offenders to commit burglary across Bedfordshire, and it follows a structured plan with dedicated leads for four main strands: Prepare, Protect, Prevent and Pursue.

Protection and prevention work will be targeted in areas identified as vulnerable, while prepare and pursue efforts will focus on identifying possible offenders, improving their curfew compliance and encouraging voluntary tag uptake.

The success of the plan relies on working together with partner agencies and the public to tackle burglary.

The Integrated Offender Management (IOM) scheme works closely within Op Fidelity and offenders to reduce reoffending. See more on our tackling offenders page.

Operation Vision engagement events and community surveys will also help police to better understand how burglary affects different neighbourhoods.

The force also runs Operation Cocoon, which is implemented within 72 hours of a burglary being reported and includes practical and useful information and advice, guidance and UV marking pens for victims and visits from officers for reassurance – both in the homes of victims and neighbouring properties.
