Over the past 12 months, Bedfordshire’s Special Constables have contributed a total of 79,891 hours, made 495 arrests, stopped 2,100 vehicles and seized 155 vehicles.
Special Constabulary helps bolster Op Meteor
Members of the Special Constabulary joined Op Meteor and worked closely with full time police officers and partner agencies to help disrupt the illegal and dangerous practice of riding off-road bikes in public places.
Since January 2016, officers working as part of Op Meteor have seized 56 bikes and arrested 12 people. The team continues to crack down on such behaviour, holding days of action across the county to engage with the community.
Bedfordshire Special Constable Wins Prestigious Award
Special Constable from Bedfordshire has won a prestigious volunteering award, after becoming the UK’s first Special Constable Dog Handler following battle with Cystic Fibrosis and a successful double lung transplant.
Special Constable John Power, 30, was honoured at the Lord Ferrers Awards 2015 (previously known as the Special Constabulary and Volunteer Awards) at the Houses of Parliament. John, accompanied by Police Dog Charlie, received the Special Constable Overcoming Adversity award from the Home Secretary.
