Criminal damage

Criminal damage is where a person destroys or damages property belonging to another person. It has to deliberate and permanent for it to be classed as criminal damage.  It is a crime that can have high levels of repeat victimisation and can cause a great deal of distress to the victim. 

What to do if you’re a victim of criminal damage

  • If your property has been damaged, it’s a good idea to get it repaired quickly if you can. Vandalised property can attract people who might cause more damage.
  • It’s a good idea to look at your home security and, if necessary, upgrade it.
