Child Abuse

Bedfordshire Police investigates all incidents of the ill treatment of children including serious physical and sexual assaults, emotional abuse, as well as cases of neglect.

If you are being abused or think a child is being abused, we have a dedicated Safeguarding Investigation Unit which works in close partnership with the local authority children’s services.  The team investigates recent and non-recent crimes.

The team deals with all allegations of child abuse within families or by people in any position of trust in relation to children.  Our specialist child abuse investigators have received particular training on how to interview children and young people, balancing the needs of gathering evidence with sensitivity a concern for their welfare during the interview process.

The team also deals with cases involving sexual activity between young children and supports other teams within the public protection unit in dealing with individuals suspected of creating, sharing or possessing images of child abuse
