Two Arrested in Luton Drugs Raid
Two people were arrested by Bedfordshire Police after a dawn raid at a property in Hitchin Road, Luton took place this morning (Friday March 5).
Luton’s Intelligence Team supported by members of Luton East Safer Neighbourhood Team, based at Luton Police Station executed the warrant at the property and found a room filled with 150 cannabis plants.
Two men aged 35 and 33 were arrested at the scene on suspicion of cultivating cannabis. The two men are currently being questioned at Luton police station.
A full hydroponics lighting systems had been fitted with the electricity supply to the property being tampered with rendering it a danger. A qualified electrician had to be called to make the property safe.
It is hoped that this operation will also reassure the public without whose information and trust this type action would not be possible.
Detective Sergeant Maz Wheeler, of the Luton Intelligence Team, said: “This operation sends out a clear message that drugs, and the cultivation of drugs, will not be tolerated in Bedfordshire.
“This seizure is the result of carefully planned, intelligence-led work and confirms the message that Bedfordshire Police is committed to the fight against drugs and those involved in producing, selling or using them can expect to find us knocking at their door.”
“We would like to thank members of the public for the information which allowed this operation to be such a success and we would continue to urge the public to support the police in the fight against illegal substances and would ask them to contact officers with any suspicions they may have.”
Clues a property may be used for the cultivation of cannabis include permanently drawn curtains or blinds, strong smells and different people visiting.
