Operation Pleat: Eleventh Man Jailed
An eleventh man who played a part in Op Pleat, the long running investigation into burglaries across Beds and Herts where high value cars were stolen off drives, has been jailed at Luton Crown Court today (Tuesday, Jan 26).
Marcin MIKOLAJCZAK, born 22/09/1980, formerly of Winstanley Road, Wellingborough, Northants, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to transfer criminal property.
He was sentenced to three and a half years for conspiracy to transfer criminal property.
MIKOLAJCZAK was extradited from Poland on November 16, 2009 with the help of the Polish authorities.
After the case DI Jon Gilbert, who led the investigation, said: “This operation sends out a clear message to all criminals, who previously believed that by travelling abroad they would be able to evade the criminal justice system. This investigation demonstrates that the police will work with international agencies utilising all law and enforcement powers available, to bring criminals back from other countries and place them before the courts. House burglary has a significant detrimental impact on local communities. Anyone who commits such a crime will be tracked down and brought to justice.”
“These crimes are taken extremely seriously by the courts and will result in a substantial prison sentence.”
