The Scary Guy Is Coming To Town
Police in Luton working in partnership with schools within the town have enlisted the help of an American speaker to talk with young people about hate, violence, prejudice and bullying.
Bedfordshire Police have invited ‘The Scary Guy’ to support the force’s ‘Safer Schools’ campaign and it is hoped that young people will listen to what he has to say about the consequences of what they do or say.
During Scary’s first visit to Luton he will be speaking to 11 - 13 year olds and giving his presentation and unique workshops addressing issues such as becoming involved in anti social behaviour, bullying, gangs and violent crime.
‘The Scary Guy’ campaigns around the world and has delivered his message to over 7 million people so far, teaching them the skills to deal with negative anger together with the hate and violence that they sometimes find themselves facing in society.
Scary said: “I teach people how to maintain their integrity and never to compromise their power in the face of someone else’s rotten energy, by reacting to the words they hear and becoming as negative as their aggressor, going to battle and calling it defence, or simply living as a victim of what they have heard.”
Neighbourhood Improvement Sergeant, PS Aaron Kiff, who has organised the event, said: “We hope that Scary will make a lasting impression on the students he will be speaking with and that they learn how to promote a positive attitude throughout our communities.
“Scary’s presentations and workshops are one of many educational and diversionary initiatives we will be using to reduce crime and anti social behaviour. We hope this will help stop young people getting involved in these negative activities and will give young people the opportunity to think about how what they say and do impacts on other people’s lives. The skills they will take away from participating in this initiative will also help them to understand how to stand up for themselves without resorting to violence and help them become positive role models for people younger than themselves.”
Scary’s first visit will be at Putteridge High School on January 27 and 28, 2010. Any media who wish to attend can do so on Wednesday 27 at 9am. Please contact the Media Office on 01582 394171 if you plan to attend.
