Parking Wise Saves Lives Competition!

Budding artists are being given the opportunity to win a Bowling Party by entering a poster competition “Parking Wise Saves Lives”.

The competition has been organised by PC Paul Ayling, of the Dunstable-based Safer Neighbourhood Team, with prizes donated by Go Bowling, Court Drive, Dunstable.

PC Ayling, PCSOs Richard Alleyne and Tina Platt will be visiting lower and middle school assemblies this week to launch the competition. The team will also be talking to the children about the dangers of problem parking outside school gates and road safety.  The initiative is to highlight road safety and encourage parents to think about where they park whilst dropping off at school.

A colouring competition will be held for Year 1 and 2 pupils and older children from Year 3 to Year 8 will be asked to design a poster promoting ‘’Parking Wise Saves Lives’’.

The competition will run from Monday (March 1) to Monday (March 15) and the winning entrants will be announced during assemblies throughout the week commencing Monday (March 22).

A winner from each school will receive a Go Bowling Party (10 free games) and the winning colouring or poster design will be displayed outside the school.

PC Ayling, said: ”The poster competition is designed to push home the importance of parking safely outside schools. To encourage and educate parents to think about where they park and have respect for the residents in the neighbourhood nearby.

“Drivers who are in a hurry ignore parking restrictions outside schools creating hazards for other road users and pedestrians. They often park inconsiderately and illegally outside schools.

“The intention is to educate drivers of the danger of parking inconsiderately. The law is there to protect road users and inconsiderate parking could result in a fixed penalty notice or a vehicle being removed.  The safety of children is paramount and the aim is to create a safer environment outside the schools. Think again and park elsewhere.”
