Flitwick Dangerous Parking Crackdown
BEDFORDSHIRE Police are to crackdown on motorists parking dangerously in the Coniston Road area of Flitwick.
Safer Neighbourhood Team Police Officer, John Toombs, wants to make motorists aware that action will be taken. Until now warnings have been given to those parking on double yellow lines in the Coniston Road area. Officers from Flitwick Safer Neighbourhood Team will now be out and about checking the area. Fixed penalty notices will be issued or the vehicle removed.
In addition to normal duties, the team will pay particular attention to the double yellow lines between Flitwick Library and Tesco in Coniston Road. This area is next to a pedestrian crossing used by school children. Vehicles parked here cause an obstruction.
This action follows complaints and concerns from local residents and those who flout the law can expect, as a minimum, a £30 fixed penalty ticket.
PC John Toombs said: “I want to reassure residents action will be taken. With this in mind, the Safer Neighbourhood Team will be deployed to deal with those drivers of all abilities who break the law. These rules also apply to those using the blue disabled badge as well as private hire vehicles waiting for fares.
“Ample parking spaces are provided by Tesco and the disabled bays in the car park are also being checked to ensure that only blue badge holders are using and displaying their badges.
“When vehicles are parked on the yellow lines, drivers are forced to drive in the centre of the road to pass. A drivers visability is impaired, as this on a bend and very close to a pedestrian crossing.
“If parking causes an obstruction or a danger to others police have the power to remove or ticket the vehicle.”
