Robbery Witnesses Sought
Police in Luton are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man was robbed of his mobile telephone, cash and bank cards on Thursday (Jan 28).
The incident happened as the victim was walking through an underpass which runs under Chapel Viaduct from Castle Street between 12.30pm and 1pm.
The victim had been shopping in the town and it is believed four or five men followed him from the Arndale Centre, past the Crown Court and Staples before catching up with him in the underpass.
The men pushed the victim, searched his pockets and took a mobile telephone, cash and back cards before demanding he tell them his pin number. The offenders then pushed the victim to the ground before leaving the scene running towards the town centre.
The officer in charge of this investigation, PC Steve Scott, of Luton’s Robbery Team, said it was very busy in town and is keen to trace anyone who saw a group of men in the town matching this description or anyone who saw the robbery.
One of the offenders is described as a black man with a dark complexion, approximately 5’5” tall with a slim build and between 19 – 23 years old. He was wearing a large stone stud earring in each ear, a dark grey hooded top with a zip up the front which had a large multi coloured star pattern on the body and plain sleeves. He also wore dark grey track bottoms which were pulled down low revealing cartoon patterned underwear and black and grey checked training shoes.
A second offender is also described as a black man with a dark complexion, approximately 5’11” tall with a large build and between 20 – 30 years old. He was wearing a black hooded top and dark jeans, a red belt and yellow training shoes. He was carrying a chain wrapped around his fist and also wore his trousers low revealing black underwear.
Anyone with information can contact PC Scott at Luton Police Station, in confidence, on 01234 841212, or text 07786 200011, or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
