Bank Robbery at Nat West Bedford

CCTV Image Released By Police CCTV images have been released by Police to a robbery at the Natwest Bank on Bedford High Street.

Staff called police at 4.54pm on Tuesday 2nd February after a man had entered the bank armed with a knife.

He approached a man who was paying in some money at one of the counters and grabbed him round the neck, holding a knife to his throat and demanded money. The female bank teller, who had been serving the customer, handed over a packet of money from the desk  and the robber then left the bank and went along the High Street on foot.

He went through Lidl’s car park and in the direction of St Peters Street and was last seen going in the direction of Kimbolton Road.

Armed officers conducted a search for the man, but were unable to locate him. The customer (aged about 50) who was grabbed by the robber has a small cut to his hand but is otherwise unhurt.

The man is described as white, 40-50 years old, balding and with black trousers, white shirt and a dark dinner-suit style jacket.

Det Sgt Gary Maxey is the officer currently working on the case and is keen to hear from as many people as possible who were in the High Street at the time, or who may have seen anything suspicious or the man before or after the incident.

“The man walked into the bank with no mask or disguise and people may have seen him hanging about before hand, or after the event. As a result of the robbery, the offender may be covered in red dye which is one of the crime deterrent measures used by the bank,” said Det Sgt Maxey. “If you saw him, or even think you did, please contact us as soon as you can.”

His team can be contacted on 01234 275254 or via the control room on 01234 841212, or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
