Do You Know Where This Car Has Been?

red Ford Escort, registration number P104 0WTOfficers from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, investigating the shooting of a 26 year old man a fortnight ago, have today released CCTV pictures of a car they believe may be connected to the case.

Police launched the investigation after the victim, who is from London, was admitted to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital on November 2 with shot gun pellet wounds to his face and neck.  The injuries were not life threatening and he discharged himself from hospital after receiving treatment.

Later that week detectives arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with this incident and he has been bailed pending further police inquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Melanie Burn, who is leading the investigation in to the circumstances surrounding this incident, believes a red Ford Escort, registration number P104 0WT, which was found parked in Wenlock Street in Luton on November 2, may be connected to this shooting.

DCI Burn said: “The car is now undergoing extensive forensic examinations but we need the public to help us piece together where this car was between the early hours of Nov 1 and 9am on Nov 2. We do not know where the victim was when he was injured and it may be the case that he was not in Bedfordshire when this happened.

“This is a very serious incident and although crimes of this nature do not regularly happen it is important that anyone who has information relating to this car or the shooting of this man contacts the police.

She added: “The police will not tolerate this type of crime and we are pursuing every line of investigation available to us to track down who is responsible for this incident. We believe there are people who have knowledge of this shooting and I would appeal directly to them to speak to the police and tell them what they know.  I would reassure them that they can do this in complete confidence and if they wish they can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

If you have information that could help this investigation you can contact the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit on 01707 355798, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or text 07786 200011.
