Luton Says Hello To New Chief Superintendent

A police officer who has returned from Albania after leading an international team to develop policing services is to become the new Divisional Commander for Luton.
Chief Superintendent Mike Colbourne will be taking over the post at the beginning of December and is looking forward to the challenges he will face while leading the policing service for the town.
Mike began his policing career at Northamptonshire Police in 1993 having completed his studies in geography, geology and education at Keele University and a short service commission in the British Army.
His first years were spent in Wellingborough in uniform and as a Detective Constable before being promoted to Sergeant and getting involved in emergency reactive and proactive policing and community engagement.
In 2000 he was promoted to Inspector and worked in the force’s control room providing support to a major force communications, command and control project before being promoted in 2002 to Chief Inspector when he returned to Wellingborough as Eastern Division Operations Manager and Deputy Divisional Commander.
Mike transferred to Bedfordshire Police in 2003 and took up the post of Superintendent Operations Manager at Dunstable Police Station before being promoted to Divisional Commander for Central Bedfordshire in November 2003.
In March 2007, on secondment with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Mike was temporarily promoted to Assistant Chief Constable in the role of UK Chief Police Advisor in Iraq before heading for Albania.
Returning recently to the UK and Bedfordshire Police Mike will be picking up the reins as Luton’s Divisional Commander and said: “My recent work showed me how important it is for the police to build trust and confidence of the public and for us to understand fully the policing requirements of our diverse communities. Continuing the partnership drive to reduce crime and improve safety and security; improving public satisfaction through delivery of the policing pledge; and establishing ever more confident communities within Luton are my key priorities.”
