Police Launch Hunt For Firework Pest
POLICE in Leighton Buzzard are appealing for information and witnesses after a firework was pushed through a letterbox in the town.
Police were called to a property in Old Road, Linslade, at 8.10pm on Sunday (Nov 8) after a householder was forced to stamp on a firework that landed on his wooden floor, scorching the surface.
PC Danielle Taylor, investigating, said although the householder, who is in his 30s, was not hurt, but it could have been more serious.
She said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or knows who was involved. Had this gentleman had a carpet instead of a wooden floor, and had he not acted so swiftly, there could well have been a fire.”
The offence was in contrast to an otherwise relatively trouble-free firework and Halloween period for police in the Leighton Buzzard area.
It followed repeated appeals from police for revellers to enjoy the occasions, but not to act irresponsibly with fireworks or call on those who may feel intimidated or frightened by trick-or-treaters.
PC Taylor said: “Safer Neighbourhood Teams were on patrol throughout the period and, although there was the odd incident of anti-social behaviour, the vast majority of young people were perfectly well behaved. We would like to thank them, and their parents, for that.”
