Central Bedfordshire
Policing the towns and villages of Central
Bedfordshire has always brought its own challenges. While the
District is a pleasant place to live and work, the geographic
nature of the area means it is often difficult to have our Police
Officers and Community Support Officers in the right place at the
right time. Despite these challenges, during the past twelve
months we have achieved some excellent results in the reduction of
those crimes which really impact on our residents the most,
noticeably a 40% reduction in breaks into people’s houses.
This new model of Policing has enabled me to ensure there are
more Police Officers and PCSOs available for patrol. The
enhanced role of the PCSOs and alignment to the shifts of Police
Officers allows them to be more closely linked in to reducing
crime; targeting prolific offenders in the communities in which
they work along with targeting Anti Social Behaviour affecting the
most vulnerable members of our society as well as those areas that
are blighted by such acts.
A key feature of our model of Policing is the intrinsic link to
engagement with those that live and work in the area. The
Local Policing Community Teams, are dedicated to providing
reassurance for our communities. I am conscious that we don’t
always communicate our successes and achievements on community
issues; this is one area that I am actively seeking to improve upon
over the next few months to ensure that residents have access to a
more informed opinion on the Policing services that they
receive.
