Missing People

Bedfordshire Police treats reports of missing people very seriously and works hard to locate those who have gone missing.

Several resources from the force will be used to assist in missing people enquiries, including the force control room, community officers, response officers, and the dedicated missing people co-ordinators.

The force also works with partner agencies to ensure that people who go missing regularly are safeguarded appropriately and receive the help and support they need to prevent future occurrences of them going missing.

Definition

A missing person is defined as someone whose whereabouts cannot be established and where the circumstances are out of character, or the context suggests the person may be subject to crime, or at risk of harm to themselves or another.
When someone is reported missing, they will be categorised as either low, medium, or high risk. The risk level will be regularly reviewed and amended if necessary.
An absent person is defined as someone who is not in a place where they are expected or required to be and where there is no apparent risk.
