Welcome to The Bedfordshire and Luton Independent Advisory Group (IAG)

Bedfordshire and Luton Independent Advisory Group (IAG) was formed in 2001 to act as a critical friend to the Police in ensuring that all police services, policies, procedures and practices are free from any kind of direct or indirect discrimination, regardless of age, disability, gender, racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, or sexual orientation.

What does the IAG do?

Our IAG is part of a national network of IAGs designed with carefully researched terms of reference and structures, agreed by community groups and supported by the Police and the Home Office.

It: -

  • Monitors, analyses and reviews policies and procedures.
  • Provides advice and support.
  • Makes recommendations and participates through the Police structure to promote trust, confidence, respect, partnership between the Police and the communities it serves.
  • Works closely but critically and independently with the Police to improve the quality and effectiveness of the Police Service and community safety and community cohesion.
