Bedfordshire Police on Flickr.com
Some of the officers and staff who policed the streets for the
Olympic Torch Relay last month can see themselves online on the
Bedfordshire Police Flickr page – a social networking site that
allows you to upload your photos through the web.
The force page can be found at www.flickr.com/bedfordshirepolice
- it shows hundreds of images such as community events and policing
operations, most of which have been taken by the Imagery
Department.
Force photographers Ian Hebden and Lynnsey Brooks, who created
the Bedfordshire page says Flickr is another way for the force to
showcase its talents.
“The Imagery Department has great access to all areas of
policing and it is great to be able to exercise our creativity
while showing our officers, staff and equipment in the best
possible light,” he said. “The public appetite for police images
and stories is continually increasing and this way we get to
combine our photographic skills and policing expertise and show it
to a global audience.
Superintendent Linda Kelly, who led the operation to police the
Olympic Torch Relay, which is featured on the site, added; “It’s
great to see the photos of our officers and staff as they policed
such a positive community event. The policing operation received a
great deal of praise and it is fantastic to see some of that good
will portrayed online in this way and to such a diverse
audience.”
Jo Hobbs, Media Relations Manager said, “The force is really
making a name for itself on social media and Flickr is just another
way we can positively promote the image of the force. We already
have one of the busiest and most popular police Facebook sites in
the country and Twitter is really taking off with a number of
officers also now ‘tweeting’ in a professional capacity.
Traditional media and communications still play a very important
part in our work but developing our social media networks is also
very exciting and we are reaching far more people than ever
before.”
