Fight against crime steps up a gear

Members of the Luton Community Policing team are now using mountain bikes to patrol the streets.

The team of three PCSOs and a Sergeant started their bike patrols shortly after Luton Carnival and have made it a regular way of patrolling the beat ever since.

The bikes have been introduced as the force continues to bolster its response to community issues, with teams continuing to work closely with partner agencies to keep communities safe.

Sergeant Richard Cunningham said: “I think this is an exciting and efficient way of keeping our communities safe. Bikes allow us to travel across the area much faster, and we are taking every opportunity to cover as much of the area as possible while patrolling the town, including anti-social behaviour hotspots. This new approach means we can be more visible in our neighbourhoods.”

The team is based in Futures House in Marsh Farm and focuses on anti-social behaviour and other community issues in the north and west areas of Luton.
