Subject Access - how do you access information about yourself?

Section 7 of the Data Protection Act 1998 states that a data subject (the person about whom the personal data refers) is entitled, upon written request, to be informed whether or not personal data is held or processed about them.

Should you wish to know what information, if any, Bedfordshire Police holds about you, please follow the below processes for making that request.

How to access your personal data held on the Police National Computer (PNC) - including details of prosecution/conviction history
Should you like to know what information is held about you on the Police National Computer; you will need to complete an ACPO Subject Access Application. The form should be printed and completed following the instructions which are on the form.

The processing of these applications is carried out by the Association of Chief Police Officers Criminal Records Office, known as ACRO. Bedfordshire Police can provide general advice about what information this application will provide and whether it is appropriate for your needs.

However, all queries about how the process works, timescales for responses etc should be directed to ACRO on 0238 00200190.

How to access your personal data held on Bedfordshire Police systems

Should you wish to know what information is held about you on Bedfordshire Police local systems, please complete a Bedfordshire Subject Access Form (do not use this form to request a check for a criminal conviction history - see previous paragraph). This form should be printed and completed following the instructions which are on the form.

Please note that, once we have received your completed application, the process to provide you with information can take up to 40 days.

How to apply for both types of information

Please be advised that should you wish to complete both an ACPO and Bedfordshire subject access request you are only required to pay one fee of £10, which will need to be sent to ACRO with your ACRO SA1 application.

You will be required to send identification documents to both ACRO and Bedfordshire Police with your applications. Please ensure that you have noted on the subject access applications that you have submitted both requests.
